Banana face mask
Banana contains not only moisture but also ingredients that are vital for our skin such as potassium and vitamins A, B and E.
This means that it can help get rid of dark spots and blemishes alongside delaying signs of aging and hydrating skin cells. For a face mask to fight pimples, mix the mashed pulp of a banana with ½ tsp of baking soda and ½ tsp of turmeric. Apply the mask onto your face using a makeup brush as not to stain your fingers with the turmeric. Let it sit for 10-15 minutes and if the baking soda stings slightly, don’t be alarmed. After that, wash your face with lukewarm water and apply your moisturiser as normal.
Avocado and honey mask
Avocado is one of the trendiest ingredients right now, but who said it’s only there to be eaten?
It actually has unique properties that provide nutrients and antioxidants directly to your skin so that afterwards it will feel soothed. Mash ½ avocado with ¼ cup of uncooked oats, 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar, 2 tbsp honey and 1 tsp lemon juice. The result is a face mask that will cleanse, brighten, exfoliate and smooth the skin. In fact, a lot of natural skincare lines, such as Tropic Skincare, use avocado oil in their products which only goes to show that it has its benefits.
If you’ve got a sweet tooth (or a coffee addict) then you’ll love this mocha mask.
Cocoa powder actually contains a ton of anti-ageing antioxidants such as flavonoids that help your skin retain moisture and help with the repair of damaged cells. At the same time, coffee grounds are not an incredibly inexpensive way to exfoliate but the caffeine provides other benefits that help to reduce puffy eyes. Another natural ingredient, bentonite clay, is made from volcanic ash and it used to remove toxins and impurities from the skin. Combine 1 tsp of finely ground coffee with 1 tbsp cocoa power and 1 tbsp of bentonite clay, adding enough water to make a smooth paste. Apply to your face, sit back and relax for 15 minutes or so, gently massaging the coffee grounds into your skin as you rinse it off.
Strawberry and lemon mask
Sometimes stress can make our skin breakout but this fruity facemask will leave you feeling clean and refreshed.
Strawberries are a natural source of salicylic acid, a common ingredient found in many over the counter acne remedies. Similarly, the natural properties of lemon such as vitamin C can help to tighten pores and brighten the complexion but it’s particularly good at minimising the appearance of acne scarring. Add 1 tsp of lemon juice with ½ an egg white, 1 ½ tsp honey and ¾ cup of fresh strawberries into a blender and blend until smooth. It should take around 10 minutes for the face mask to work and after that all you need to do is rinse with warm water. You might want to refrigerate your mask for 10 minutes before you apply so that its cold and more soothing to the skin.
